One of my biggest impressions in grade school was when a teacher took our class to the Puget Sound shore to collect seaweed and kelp, then to wash, dry and prepare it as food. Today’s coastal waters, impacted by pollution and climate-sensitive algae blooms seem more questionable for such innocent harvesting.
